Professional Teeth Whitening

Are your teeth discolored or stained? If you wish for a brighter, whiter smile, Dr. McKinley-Holloway and Dr. Arben Uldedaj may recommend teeth whitening in Shelby Township, Michigan. Our dentists offer convenient at-home whitening solutions.

Effectiveness of Teeth Whitening

Our take-home teeth whitening systems are designed to gradually brighten your teeth, offering significant improvements in the color of your teeth. The process is comfortable, and you can expect to see results without the sensitivity that sometimes accompanies other methods.

How Long Will Teeth Whitening Last?

The effects of teeth whitening are not permanent. Patients who consume foods and beverages that can stain their teeth may see the effects begin to fade in as little as a month. However, with proper care and avoidance of staining foods and drinks, your bright smile can last a year or longer. We are always here to provide you with touch-up treatments to maintain your radiant smile.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Are you considering whitening your teeth? Read some of our FAQs to learn more about our professional at-home teeth whitening and call our office to schedule an appointment with our dentists and team.

What causes my teeth to become stained?

Some of the factors which cause tooth discoloration and staining include:

  • Age
  • Smoking and tobacco use
  • Illness and medications
  • Genetics
  • Excessive fluoride consumption (fluorosis)
  • Foods and drinks which stain (including tea, coffee, soda, wine, berries, pomegranates, grapes, beets, tomato sauce, soy sauce, ketchup and balsamic vinegar, to name a few)

Why should I have my teeth whitened professionally?

There are many over-the-counter whitening products, but professional teeth whitening is always faster, safer, and more effective. Whitening products purchased at your local supermarket can take weeks to have an effect and may cause long-term damage to your teeth and other oral structures. Our professional at-home whitening treatments work more quickly and are designed to avoid causing damage to your teeth.

How long does tooth whitening last?

The results from our whitening treatments typically last from six months to two years. Avoiding substances that stain can extend the results of your treatment. Periodic touch-up treatments are also recommended to keep your smile bright.

Does tooth whitening affect fillings, veneers, or crowns?

No. Whitening treatments have little or no effect on the restorative materials used in creating fillings, veneers, and crowns.

Teeth Whitening Kit

If you elect to receive our take-home whitening, our dentists will provide you with a teeth whitening kit and instructions on how to apply the gel and wear the trays, including how long to wear them.  As you begin the treatment, you will see your teeth gradually begin to whiten.
